CLASSES

Build skill. Build confidence. Find the way you love to move.

The Mandala Academy offers welcoming, thoughtfully structured classes for dancers and movers with a variety of goals and experience levels. You do not need to fit a particular body type, background, or definition of a “dancer” to participate.

DANCE FOUNDATIONS

Dance Foundations develops the essential skills dancers use across a variety of dance styles. Students strengthen musical timing, alignment, posture, coordination, body awareness, and movement quality while practicing center exercises, across-the-floor progressions, turns, leaps, jumps, kicks, and combinations.

Suggested age range: grades 3–8, approximately ages 8–14.

Experience: beginner through developing/intermediate. No previous dance experience is required.

Skills can be layered so beginners learn the foundation while experienced dancers refine mechanics, control, and execution or receive more complex progressions.

HIP-HOP

An energetic, beginner-friendly class where dancers develop rhythm, musicality, coordination, confidence, and personal style. Students learn foundational grooves, footwork, isolations, dynamics, freestyle skills, and age-appropriate choreography while exploring the culture and creative expression at the heart of hip-hop dance.

Suggested age range: grades 3–8, approximately ages 8–14.

Experience: beginner through developing/intermediate. No previous hip-hop or dance experience is required.

STRENGTH & FLEXIBILITY

An all-level training class designed to help participants become stronger, more mobile, and more confident in their physical abilities. Through bodyweight exercises, core and full-body strength training, mobility work, active flexibility, and guided stretching, participants improve stability, alignment, balance, control, endurance, and range of motion.

Suggested age range: ages 10 through adult.

Experience: all levels. Dancers and non-dancers are welcome.

Exercises are modified or progressed for different abilities. Younger participants ages 8–9 may attend with instructor approval if they can follow directions, use equipment safely, and participate independently. This class emphasizes healthy movement and safe flexibility development—not appearance, weight loss, or forcing the body beyond its limits.

YOGA

An all-level class designed to develop strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, body awareness, and a deeper connection between mind and body. Participants learn foundational yoga poses, breathing techniques, intentional movement, and relaxation practices while exploring how alignment and anatomy support safe, effective movement.

Suggested age range: ages 10 through adult.

Experience: all levels. No previous yoga, dance, or fitness experience is required.

Younger participants ages 8–9 may attend with instructor approval if they can remain focused, follow detailed safety instructions, and participate independently.

DANCECARDIO

A joyful, high-energy class that combines easy-to-follow dance movement with cardiovascular exercise. The goal is to move, sweat, enjoy the music, and leave feeling energized—not to perform choreography perfectly.

Best for: teens and adult women.

Experience: no dance experience required.

OPEN STUDIO CHOREO LAB

A periodic creative session for dancers who want to learn, create, experiment with, or perform choreography. Each lab may explore a different genre, song, concept, or collaborative process.
